FR Scott now Platinum Partner of Hull & East Yorkshire Powerchair Football Club
31 January 2024
FR Scott are delighted to announce that they have strengthened their partnership with Hull & East Yorkshire Powerchair Football Club by becoming a Platinum Partner.
Following on from a successful year as a Bronze Partner, we have increased our support to help ensure the club achieves its ambitious plans for growth. This again shows the commitment of FR Scott to our local community, a community we have served since 1945.
Head of Sales & Marketing Tony Rands caught up with Kai Gill from the Hull & East Yorkshire Powerchair Football club – nicknamed the Eels – to discuss the latest partnership and ask some questions to find out even more about Powerchair Football……
What is Powerchair football and who is it for?
“Powerchair football is a dynamic and fast-paced version of football adapted for electric wheelchair users. The players use specialised powerchairs that are specifically only used for Powerchair football. The sport is played on a 30m x 18m basketball court, with two teams of four. They use bumpers to dribble, pass and spin kick an oversized ball. Powerchair football is a sport designed for physically disabled people who use a wheelchair in their daily lives. All ages and genders are welcome. No experience is needed.”
How do you get into Powerchair football?
“The best way is to fill-out our try powerchair football page on our website www.electriceelspfc.com to enquire about trying Powerchair football. The club regularly receives emails from parents/carers, family members and even support or healthcare workers about how their disabled person can join.”
What do you enjoy about Powerchair Football?
“Where do I start there is so much I enjoy about Powerchair football. There are two things that stand out for me when answering this question. Firstly, when I play Powerchair football it takes my mind off ‘things’ and my condition. I get to play a sport I love with my close friends. Secondly, the community aspect of Powerchair football is just incredible. We all help each other even players who play for a different team. No one is judged. I’ve made friends for life and I know my family has too. We are all one big community.”
How does playing Powerchair football and being part of the Eels impact your members?
“I’m proud to say that being part of Hull & East Yorkshire Powerchair football club positively impacts the lives of all our members. One of our players, George, came for a taster session 8 years ago and loved it. He travels across from Immingham to training and matches as he has nothing like us near to him. His family tell me that after suffering some tragic life events they are forever grateful for friendship and support they receive from everyone at the club and our sponsors like FR Scott. George loves playing and meeting up with his team mates is the highlight of his week.”
Tell us why the support from local businesses is important to the you and the team?
“The support from local businesses is integral to helping us achieve our charitable aim and objectives. Giving disabled people in this region the chance to play a sport they love at a competitive or recreational level.”
How have FR Scott supported Hull & East Yorkshire Powerchair Football club?
“F R Scott have supported us over the last few years by firstly becoming a bronze partner in 2023. Now increasing their support becoming a platinum partner and shirt sleeve sponsor. What FR Scott do goes beyond just sponsoring. They have donated fixings such as nuts and bolts along with tools for the club to use to maintain our powerchairs. The F R Scott team regularly speak to us and help with fixings advice when needed. They also actively get involved with us. Often coming down supporting us on match days and attending end of season awards nights and golf days.”
From your perspective as marketing & communications officer, how has the partnership with FR Scott strengthened the overall infrastructure and sustainability of the team?
“The partnership with F R Scott is incredible and we are extremely thankful of their ongoing support. When we first spoke to F R Scott we mentioned about the ongoing costs of tools, bolts, nuts and washers that we constantly use to maintain the powerchairs. Their regular donations of fixings enable us to use the funds that was used on fixings to be used on other important areas. We have been able to spend more on sports hall hire and buying equipment such as footballs. Through our partnership with F R Scott that cost for fixings has reduced hugely, and we feel exceptionally lucky to have the support from F R Scott. Their team are always coming up with different ways to maintain our equipment. We have the most incredible support from them”.
What are your future plans and ambitions for the club?
“Our main goal is to continue to give disabled people in the region the opportunity to play powerchair football. Either at a competitive or recreational level. We are growing every year with now up 25 members signed up. This year our focus is on developing coaches to help with training etc and meet our internal goals.”
