FR Scott commit to ongoing support of grassroots football in Hull

23 January 2024

Hull largest independent supplier of fixings, fasteners and ironmongery FR Scott has agreed to continue as matchday sponsor for Oak Road Rangers for another 2 seasons.

Having been matchday sponsor for Oak Road Rangers for the 23/24 season we have demonstrated our ongoing support for grassroots football in the Hull area by agreeing to continue our sponsorship right through to the 25/26 season.

Playing an active part in the community we have served 1945 remains a key driver for FR Scott. Part of that is our numerous sport club sponsorships. Our online fixings site Fix and Fast which supplies fixings across the UK has also sponsored an Oak Road Rangers player for upcoming season.

Head of Sales and Marketing for FR Scott Tony Rands caught up with Oak Road Rangers Goalkeeper and Sponsorships Manager Rich Wallis to discuss find out a bit more about the team and discuss our support….

Who are Oak Road Rangers and what level do they play at?

Oak Road Rangers are a well established grassroots football club in Hull. We have been around for 20 years at a men’s Sunday league level. Over the last few years since COVID, we’ve managed to work out way up the Divisions to Division 2. Our vets side have just started this season and they are on course to win promotion this season.”

How many teams & players do you currently have?

“We have 1 Sunday men’s side (18+ years) and 1 new men’s veteran’s side (36+ years). We are looking to expand the club further with a reserves side for our vets next season. Working on viability of expansion of the men’s side over the coming few seasons.”

What challenges do you face running a football club right now?

“Running the club itself is harder now than it has ever been. The days of local businesses just handing you £500 per season for the good of football have gone, and rightly so.

Businesses should be seen to not just sponsor clubs, but become partners in the sense of mutual support. Businesses are the backbone of us staying as a club as long as we have.

We find ourselves struggling now more than ever to fund a season. Pitch rents are sky high, affiliation, league and insurance fees rising. Along with the cost of ensuring we have qualified refs and coaches at all games. Yet we as a club want to make our club an affordable one. So we rely on the support and collaboration from businesses over various industries to make this work.”

How important is it to you that local business like FR Scott support their local teams?

“Local businesses supporting clubs is a valuable asset. It brings that community spirit, support and collaboration if done correctly which benefits all.

Businesses I would say, should utilise the ability where possible to look more at grassroots adults sports where possible as all the grants that The FA give out are aimed at children. As soon as they become young adults, it’s more important than ever to keep the social aspect going and improve not just physical, but their mental states.

I would encourage all local businesses to invest in the adults game, as these are the ones who really need the support. Kits cost upwards of £1k nowadays. Training venues are £500 over the winter months, pitch rents can be as low as £400. To keep grassroots football going in the area, please support local.”

Tell me how, by being match day sponsors, FR Scott helped the club and its members?

“Having such a long-standing Hull based firm in FR Scott supporting our club over the last 18 months has been great. Continuing your support moving forward, shows members, supporters and volunteers in the local community that we aren’t just a 1/2 season club flash in the pan who fold. We have been around for 20 years this season and we intend on going for another 20!.

The support from having FR Scott’s name on our matchday info for our social media is a massive plus and the funds you have provided go straight back into helping the club with training venue costs/seasonal costs to allow us more room to access the facilities and equipment we require.

As a club we try to continue to offer support back by promoting the FR Scott name. Pushing the brand out there to our members, players and anyone in the local area who follows our pages on social media to support such a community-based business.

We wish that more businesses take a look at what our matchday sponsors have done over the last 2 years and see the benefits are huge.
