Conquering the Yorkshire Three Peaks for a great cause: FR Scott is Supporting Cash for Kids!

19 May 2023

Leading Hull Fixings & Ironmongery Supplier FR Scott supports Inspirational Children’s Charity…

Imagine breath-taking landscapes, stunning vistas, and the exhilarating feeling of reaching the summit. Now, add in the spirit of camaraderie and the sense of satisfaction of contributing to a worthy cause. That’s precisely what awaits the brave colleagues from our team who are walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks on 10th June for the charity Cash for Kids.

In this blog post, we’ll delve into the details of this incredible endeavour, highlighting the importance of the cause and inviting you to play a positive part of this remarkable journey.

What are the Yorkshire Three Peaks?

The Yorkshire Three Peaks are a trio of majestic peaks located in the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park in Northern England. Comprising Pen-y-ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough, these peaks offer a challenging yet rewarding experience for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Each peak presents a unique set of obstacles, including steep ascents, rocky paths, and undulating terrains, making the Yorkshire Three Peaks an exhilarating adventure for all who attempt it. Our team, many of whom are office based, will be challenged by the 24 mile route which involves over 5,000ft of vertical ascent.

Cash for Kids: Making a Difference in Children’s Lives

Cash for Kids is a fantastic charity dedicated to improving the lives of underprivileged children in local communities. They work tirelessly to provide support, resources, and opportunities to children who face poverty, illness, disability, or lack of access to education. Cash for Kids is a grant-giving charity helping the children that need it most across the UK.

Their mission is to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in our communities. They believe that all children should be able to express their individuality, achieve their potential and live life to the full.

Cash for Kids work with grass-roots organisations that aim to make a difference to young lives, directly supporting families who often have nowhere else to go.

Collectively Cash for Kids raised £20.4 million across the UK in 2022, supporting 489,409 children.

Cash for Kids has been selected as FR Scott’s charity partner for 2023.

By fundraising for Cash for Kids, our colleagues are directly contributing to the welfare and well-being of children, helping them thrive and fulfil their potential.

We first got involved in donating presents for Mission Christmas and saw the great work they do and wanted to do more. As a proud local business that has served Hull and the East Riding area since 1945 it was important to us that whatever is raised by us stays in our area to help children in our area.

The Importance of Fundraising

Fundraising plays a vital role in supporting charities like Cash for Kids. By participating in the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, Our colleagues are not only pushing their own physical and mental limits but also raising crucial funds to make a meaningful impact on the lives of disadvantaged children.

With the cost of living challenge at the moment charitable donations are falling just at the time some children need it the most. Every donation, no matter the size, has the potential to create positive change and bring a smile to a child’s face.

In training: How are the FR Scott team getting ready?

Our team are not fitness fanatics – most are more suited to a pub crawl rather than walking 24 miles up steep ascents – but they have begun to prepare themselves physically and mentally for the challenge ahead. From buying the right kit, walking boots, water proof jackets etc to watching a bit of Bear Grylls on Netflix!. Our mixed team of account managers, trade counter sales, warehouse and delivery drivers have all been getting prepared in their own way.

Head of Sales and Marketing Tony Rands said: ‘I have bought some walking boots ready for the challenge and have started using my lunchtime to break the new boots in, walking a couple of miles around the town centre every day. The first few wanders around town caused some blisters as my feet and ankles got used to how the boots fitted, but now they are fine and ready to take on the Three Peaks.

Some of the team have also been taking part in practice walks together. Recently six colleagues got up early one Sunday and did a challenging walking route around the Brantingham Hills.

Warehouse Manager Adrian Taylor said ‘It was tough but inspiring, myself and some of the team had to keep taking some breathers, but it was good to start to build up some fitness and improve our endurance ready for the Three Peaks Challenge.’

FR Scott are also lending a hand to others in the area who are also raising money in different ways. Bonus Arena security manager Paul Dearing is running for 12 hours straight in an ‘ultra marathon’ at the Bonus Arena. Some of our team plan to join him (only for 30 minutes!) to show support and get in a little bit more walking practise before the big day.

If you would like to show your support please follow FR Scott on Facebook and other social media. Share and like our post and if you can visit our Just Giving page and donate. We are looking to raise £2,000 this year for Cash for Kids – £1000 from the Three Peaks Challenge on June 10th. With a further £1000 from other activities throughout the rest of the year.
