An FR Scott Throwback with a Modern Twist

 

As 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of FR Scott, we are celebrating our heritage while simultaneously looking toward the future.

One of the ways we are doing this is with a new addition to our delivery fleet – a larger van designed to tackle pallet deliveries and longer products like screwed rod and 3 metre channel

But this isn’t just any vehicle; it’s a design that nods to the past, paying homage to our heritage with a creative throwback to the late 1970s.

 

Why a New FR Scott Van?

 

In the last year, FR Scott has seen considerable growth, securing new contracts that require the flexibility and capacity to handle more complex and varied deliveries.

Though we already had a flatbed truck capable of these tasks, the need to maintain our commitment to excellent customer service with same-day deliveries led to the decision to expand the fleet with a larger delivery van.

This new van is a valuable addition to our company’s transportation network, allowing us to keep pace with growing demands while ensuring we can continue offering our first rate service levels.

As our fleet grows, maintaining consistency in branding and aesthetic is essential, which is where our partnership with Designs Signage Solutions comes in.

 

The FR Scott Throwback Design Idea

 

We had a clear vision in mind for this new van.

With 2025 marking our 80th year in business we wanted to celebrate the company’s legacy with a nod to its past.

The idea was to recreate a van design from the early 1980s—a time when the company’s branding was recognisable in the local community for its bold, striking style.

 

The 1980s design we had in mind was an all-red van with the distinctive ‘Pac-Man’ style typeface that was a hallmark of the era.

This was an iconic look for FR Scott at the time and would serve as a nostalgic tribute to our longstanding presence in the area.

The idea was simple yet effective: bring a piece of history into the present as the company celebrates a milestone year.

 

Merging Nostalgia with Modern Aesthetics

FR Scott have partnered with Designs Signage Solutions for a number of years now for our vehicle livery.

And they brought our idea to life really well.

Although the ’80s design was an exciting concept, there was one problem – this throwback look didn’t quite align with the current branding of our fleet.

Over the last few years, we have been updating our livery to a fresher, more contemporary design, embracing a modern red-and-white colour scheme with imagery that highlights our products and services.

Head of Sales and Marketing Tony Rands said

‘The classic 1980s design, while fantastic in its own right and great to celebrate our 80^th year, didn’t quite fit with the updated look of our other vehicles in the longer term’

This is where Designs, a trusted partner for FR Scott offered real support.

Designs were now tasked with the challenge of creating a design that would capture the nostalgic essence of yesteryear while still fitting seamlessly into our modern delivery fleet.

Their solution was nothing short of brilliant.

 

The Final Design: A Perfect Blend of Old and New

 

Designs came up with an idea that beautifully married the past and the present.

Our final van design features a throwback look from the late 1970s, bringing in elements reminiscent of the company’s days based on Portland Place – prior to the 1983 move to our current site Canning Street, whilst also incorporating our modern red and white colour scheme and sleek design elements.

The result is a van that honours the FR Scott heritage but also aligns perfectly with the company’s current identity and vision for the future..

By placing this vintage van design on top of our modern red and white livery, FR Scott Ltd now has a van that honours the past while embracing the future. Plus the Pac-Man style logo is back on the streets of Hull again!
